COM ports dead

I feel like an idiot.

I havent used IDE for a while and now the COM port is greyed out. I had realTerm also installed, it complained of a registry issue (didn't do that before) when it tried to scan for com ports. Im using Win8 and I recently replaced the power supply in it.

The USB port works, I tried the one I had a webcam streaming on.

I tried Device manager and I don't see anything pop up.. I am trying it with ESP8266s, tried two....

OK... an Uno shows up.
Nope. It's just the ESP boards. I'll use the Uno!

I think your issue is resolved as you can see the UNO board ports under the Arduino IDE.

For the ESP8266 boards:
Make sure the USB cable is completely plugged in to both the Arduino board and the PC.

You may have a damaged/defective or charge-only USB cable. Try a different cable.

Maybe cable!
