99% of my projects that involve connecting RS232 devices don't require converter
I find that amazing because, as has been pointed out in this thread, the voltages differ between the TTL levels of the Arduino and RS232 devices.
Can you provide details of any of the RS232 devices that you have successfully interfaced to ?
