Comparison method problem 1.8.10

When using the Library manager to check for updates using IDE 1.8.10 there is a red warning at the lower left of the box.
Screen shot attached.

Not seen this before.

No such message here on Windows 10

Hi Bob.

It may have been related to an updating Adafruit lib.

Was seen twice almost in succession hence the ability to get the screen shot the second time.

I got this a couple days ago with 1.8.10, but couldn't reproduce it. If you get it again, copy the full text from the IDE's console window. That might provide the developers with more information about the issue.

OK good to know I am not fully senile just yet.

Honestly cannot even remember if there was any other clues in the lower console.
That would be my first stop with an error.

Maybe next time iI run the IDE I will try in debug mode.
See if that gives any more clues.

Whilst sort of following this up I did notice in my libraries folder about 9 folders with the Arduino name followed by up to 6 numbers.
These were not sensor numbers but (to me at least) seemingly random.

Dates look a little off too.
Have archived these to another location.

Not sure at this moment if it is related or not.

EDIT

After looking at the contents they were all part of this mornings lib updates by file name at least.
The contents have the file names associated with the updates.

To me it looks like a lib was updated and some form of temp copy of the original was made but not deleted when the update completed ?

I wrote an explanation of the arduino_nnnnn folders here:
https://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=654099.msg4408508#msg4408508

But this is Win 7 x64 and I can find the folders.
That user had turned on the "controlled folder" option
Not done that here and always run as a full complete administrator.

I do remember that post though.
In this case all folders had full access so it is doubtful it would have produced a not found error.

Currently all IDE's installed apart from 1.8.5 are in portable mode too but with a common sketch location.
Have been running through them doing board updates followed by seeing if any response to lib updates which of course there is.

Not been able to re-create original issue so far.

Library Manager installs the library into the arduino_nnnnn folder whenever it can't, or thinks it shouldn't, overwrite the existing folder. There are multiple reasons it would do this. The "controlled folder" thing is just one of them. It could be that one of the files is open in another program. It could be that, from looking at the metadata, the IDE thinks it could be a different library that just happens to have the same folder name. Sometimes the IDE seems to just do it for no apparent reason.

Sure, that is a completely different issue. I was referring to the reply I linked to specifically, not the entire thread. The not found error just happened to mention an arduino_nnnnn folder. It wasn't the fact that it was an arduino_nnnnn folder that caused the error. It would have happened with any folder.

If is of any help to you I can fire the ZIP across.

Those are the ones that are shown in the pic.
