compass readings (smart phones)

Is it possible to use smart phones to send headings/directions from compass applications to Arduino?

Of course it is possible.

Of course it is possible.

do you have specific way to do it?

The first approach that comes to mind is to write a smartphone app that reads the compass sensor periodically and sends it to an Arduino via a bluetooth (HC-05 or similar) card.

App Inventor is a simplified development environment for Android applications and is a good place to start on the smartphone bit. There are extensive tutorials for getting started with App Inventor and examples of interfacing with Arduino via bluetooth on the web and it has an API for the magnetic sensor. This is something that someone with modest programming skills can pick up in a weekend. Someone familiar with Arduino, App Inventor, and HC-05 could have a demonstration running in an hour.
