compiling takes a really long time on windows 7 (64-bit)

I've been using arduino alpha 0023 for a while, and everytime I compiled a sketch (I'm using arduino Uno), it took around a minute and a half each time (the sketch size didn't matter, even the blinking example takes that long to compile) and just now, out of the blue, the IDE just freezes and I can't upload any sketch.

So I downloaded Arduino 1.0 a to try and see if something improved, but that wasn't the case, it now takes around 5 minutes to compile a single sketch...

what can I do to be able to compile faster?

My computer specs:
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bits
3 Gb RAM
Intel Dual-Core 2.8 GHZ

I have the same problem.
I'm running:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
6 GB RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz
Compiling the example program blink takes about 30 seconds to a minute. I would love a way to speed things up.
