Completely new to programming/arduino- is this the right place to start?

I am not a programmer by any means but am trying to manipulate a small tool ....i've heard and watched videos about arduino and am curious as to whether it is the right tool for what I am looking to do...

Basically I have a handheld, digital protractor that has a small display that reads the angle as the two sides are moved....I am hoping to somehow program a formula/function into the hardware so that it can display a different output based on the function. The function is directly tied to the angle that the protractor would be showing and will have 2 other inputs that I would need to connect it with....I don't even know if this question makes sense but if someone could help me out or steer me in the right direction that would be awesome!

AS you will need to hack into the device and you have no electronics or software experience I'd say don't try. It's just to far beyond you at the moment!

If you wish to learn then start with one of the starter kits.

It doesn't make full sense, because you have not completely described what you want to build. Kinda like a digital caliper that reads the angle instead of distance between the two probes? Sounds like a great second project!

To help you learn Arduino, the IDE has lots of examples built in. Start there.
