Conflict between SD card and USB

Hi,

I'm quite new to Arduino. I've managed to control already most of the peripherals with my Arduino Uno. But now I have an issue with the SD card.
I've connected the shield as described in the library to pin 11, 12, 13 and cs to pin 4. But when I connect the Arduino board like this to the USB port for loading the example sketch it doesn't power on. I have to remove the connections of the SD card before it powers on.

Does anyone have a clue on how to resolve this?

Does the sketch execute properly, writing to or reading from the SD card once the sketch is loaded and the SD card reattached? If not, then I suspect you have a wiring issue.
