Confusion on 74HC595

https://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/ShiftOut On this page, there seems to be a discrepency on pins 8, 9 and 10 between the circuit and the schematic. For example, pin8 is used for ground in one picture and as an output in the schematic. Is this correct?

The page is correct (regarding pin 8 ).

The schematics you are referring to aren't showing any pin numbers. |500x382 They are showing functions and those are nicely grouped. At the left you see a bunch of outputs, neatly from 0 on top to 7 at the bottom. That's much easier reading than the last output on the other side.

74.... chips usually have GND on the left bottom and VCC on the right top (when oriented like that), and so does this one.

So don't mistake the schematics position with physical position, refer to the datasheet or other references (in this case on the same page) for the physical layout.

Oh. Good point. Makes sense now. Thank you.

MAS3: The page is correct (regarding pin 8 ).

But not much else.

And in case you missed it, the 1 µF capacitor is a very major error - it should never, ever be in that position! :astonished:
