Connect Arduino Mega 2560 to Genuino 101

Dear community,

I wondered if it is possible to connect an Arduino Mega 2560 and a Genuino 101 via the RX/TX ports, because the Arduino Mega runs on 5V and the Genuino 101 on 3.3V.

Is it dangerous for the Genuino 101, regarding overvoltage? Or is it possible?

If not, would there be another option to connect these two together?

The 101's I/O is 5v tolerant. It should work fine.
