All,
I am brand new to electronics and am having difficulty connecting an Arduino with ethernet shield to a 5 line stepper motor. The Arduino is powered by USB connected to my computer. When I plug it in in the configuration shown below, nothing happens.
Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you.

Two things to consider:
USB Probably does not have enough current capability and you need an external power supply.
Hard to get the connections right. See the examples of a 5-wire motor HERE.
If you connect the 4 windings in a random order you have a 1/3rd chance of an order that
will work. With those heavily geared down motors you cannot see the individual step movements
so you work blind and try orders till it works, or copy someone who got it working with
the same motor...
