Connecting digital pins in parallel?

Inferno:
Hi, I am trying to power a device with a digital pin. The problem is that just one digital pin can not supply enough current for my needs. So I was wondering, is it possible to connect multiple digital pins in parallel to increase the current? If so, can someone explain to me how, because I have tried and it is not working.

That is not considered a good engineering practice for several reasons and for just a few cents one can use an external switching transistor to go the job correctly. If you need help with understanding how to select and wire up a transistor then just ask.
