Is there any way to read the inputs from a midi device plugged into my pc that is running the code, with something like serial, or is the only way to do this via a midi input on a breadboard or something?
I think you should explain it more clearly, and possibly add a sort of schematics. What midi device? How is it connected to PC (USB? Midi port?)? Wat is "the code"? Do you want the PC send MIDI events via serial to Arduino? Do you want to let Arduino receive the exact same and all MIDI messages your PC receives (like a "THRU" MIDI port)?
