Connecting more than one arduino to a mac

total noob questions but I'm checking the viability of an idea and would really appreciate some help. I would like to embed arduinos into several different cases, each covered in sensors for interaction. That bit is fine, however I have 2 questions:

  1. can I connect more than one arduino to my mac at any one time?

  2. can I get the computer to automatically recognise which arduino is plugged in or will I have to always manually select a serial port?

I will be programming the whole thing in max 5. Any help would be really appreciated.

Yes

Not easily. On Windows you can modify the serial port of each board and then they will appear as specific serial ports, you could then write some software to do something with each one. The easiest option is just to select the boards...

No idea about max 5 though.
