Connecting to Scantool MX+ via Bluetooth to read OBD-II

Hi, I have a Scantool MX+ Blueooth OBD-II reader working with a Raspberry Pi. I'm interested in replacing the Pi with a Sparkfun Thing Plus C. Does anyone here have experience reading OBD-II from a reader over Bluetooth? I've found some projects using a wired connection, but I would much prefer to use Bluetooth.
My Pi is using the excellent python-obd Python library. I'm not sure if I should go looking for an Arduino compatible OBD-II library and write the software as an Arduino sketch, or if the micropython project might be the way to go so that I could continue using this Python library.
Would love to hear any experiences anyone here has with getting OBD-II data read via Bluetooth on an Arduino platform.
Thanks,
-Matt
