Connection cable gauge

As I choose the gauge (AWG) of a cable?, I need to connect the output of a 13.5v source to a circuit (consumption is less than 2A).

The voltage input of the source that is connected to the 120v outlet, I plan to connect it with a 14 AWG gauge wire

This link / table should help, 14AWG should handle 13.5v at 2a with ease.

14AWG is well over specified for 2A ( the voltage does not matter it is the current only ). A gauge of 24AWG is closer to the mark.

There are two things to check:

  1. Can the cable take the current without getting hot - this can be affected by how the
    cable is used (coiled up, uncoiled, stuck in a conduit without ventilation).

  2. Is the voltage drop permissible for the application - A 240V circuit can allow much more
    voltage drop than a 12V circuit, clearly.

The answer to 1) is easily done by looking up in a table.
The answer to 2) involves ohms law and knowing the resistance per unit length of the wire guages.
