I got too excited about this and decided to update the code.
Looks pretty cool, and my guess was sorta right, the blank field is like a monitor for the comm stack. But for me it just shows boxes when I send a signal

BTW, reading about the arduino reminded me about an older failed project, I'm gonna combine tht rider bar he best of both worlds and mbe get a user controllable knight rider bar.
