Control Battery On And Off using Arduino

Hi,

I am trying to Control the Mp3 Player Using Arduino.
I wanted to On the Mp3 player using Button input from Arduino.. So i placed a pc 817 opto coupler in between the negative terminal of the Batttery.
But it i am unable to power on the device using that.
I used the same optocouplers for Mp3 Buttons which are Working Somehow..

anyone tell me why i am facing problem ?
Can i use optocoupler in between Battery Terminal?

Q1) What is the Volts and Amps rating of the opto-coupler?
Q2) What is Volts and Amps power requirement of the MP3 player?

anyone tell me why i am facing problem ?

Because you do not understand what you are doing.

Probably not.

The output transistor of an opto coupler is only good for a few mA. Fine for a push button signal but not for power.
You have to have another transistor or FET to do the switching and signal that through an optocoupler.
