Controll AC power with arduino and relay

Hello,

I am trying to controll some lights connected to a power strip(about 500w total) with my arduino, but havn't really worked alot with high power before so wanted to make sure i wasn't about to do anything stupid that will ruin my arduino or anything even worse.

As im new to this i tried with a 6v dc adapter as it felt abit safer,
I have connected it the following way and it works as it supposed to.
i can switch computer fans or what ever i want on and off.

But if i now want like to controll more power can i just skip the 6v dc adapter and connect it straight to the wall and on the other end of the relay connect a power strip and then controll all my lights?

I have no need of controlling them one by one, i just need to turn on/off the entire power strip.

Thanks in advance

If you must play with mains voltage use something like this http://www.powerswitchtail.com/Pages/default.aspx or get something like this https://arrangemyfuneral.co.uk/?affid=GAD

Thanks for the tip, i will have to look in to those, but is it really that dangerous to work with main voltage, i fully understand it can be and you can die if your doing something stupid, but is it really so dangerous that it shouldn't be done without powerswitchtail?

With out the right training YES and you can't get that training online.
