I need to control 3 pc fans.. I was looking at some diagrams and found this:
can i use that diagram to connect 3 fans? i need 3 resistors, 3 transistors and 3 diodes?

This circuit will blow the transistor as soon as the transistor is turned on, it will connect the +Ve supply to ground.
What you need is a modification to the circuit that puts the motor in series with the transistor.
Connect the +Ve side of the motor to the supply. Connect the -ve side of the motor to the collector (top) of the transistor. Connect the diode across the motor with the anode connected to the -ve side.
In the circuit, the diode is connected with the anode to +Ve and cathode to ground. As soon as power is supplied, it will short circuit and burn out.
This circuit gets a definite fail!!

The attached is how you should do it for one motor. For three yep just triple up...
