Controlling LED-Strips using arduino

Hi,

I want to control white LED-strips using an arduino uno.
They work on 12V. Can I use them using the 5V on the arduino?
Also if so do I connect the wires to the digital data pins?

Please see the pictures below.

Thanks in advance

Not directly.

No.

Okay, how could I connect them?
I could use a transfo for 12v?

This would really help me out.

Not all LED strips need an Arduino.
I have ones that just needs VCC and GND.

You need to be certain what type of LED strips you have.

I think when you tell us exactly what LED strips you have or propose to use, with a Web link detailing the exact specifications, we can discuss what FETs to use to control them from Arduino output pins and how to wire them.

Also, do you wish to dim the strips or just switch them on and off?

I have also answered your other question. If I see you have asked something elsewhere, I usually check that you are not "cross-posting" the same question to multiple boards. You were not as such, but spreading your questions across different topic boards makes it difficult to assess what it is you are actually attempting to do. :astonished:
