The catch when using DC with current detection, is that you need to use a small AC bias on the power feed. It provides detection when the train is stopped and there is no track current provided by the throttle. It sounds harder than it really is, you can just feed a 50/60 Hz low AC voltage through a capacitor, or anything else that will provide a little current but not enough to affect the train motor.
