Good to hear. Is there another one you would recommend?
Another idea I came up with for my through stations, of which there will be six, varying from two platforms up to ten, is to install a 3pdt switch on each platform line. This would be UP for Automatic Stop, and DOWN for Manual control. Thus, if the Automatic mode is set, control of that section is via Arduino and a Motor Controller to slow and stop the train in the station. When Manual is set, control of the section is via the normal power supply and I can run as an express, stop, reverse, and so on, giving me operational control.
Similarly, my two terminal stations, one of which will have six platforms and one will have nine, will all have Auto / Manual switches. Auto mode will allow a smooth, controlled stop / start. When Manual is selected, it would be up to me not to mess it up. Using Manual mode I can then detach locos, run around and so on.
As an FYI, my model will be based on the West Coast Main Line in England, with terminal stations in Liverpool and Blackpool, and through stations for Warrington, Wigan, Poulton-le-Fylde, Layton and Bamber Bridge, and the hub of the model at Preston where all lines converge. There will also be three separate freight lines, each with a four-track fiddle yard, plus an underground railway in Liverpool with four stations.
