Controlling Shield button

I'm using a GSM shield. The wiki page for the shield mentions its broadcasting can be shut on and off through the D7 port. But it doesn't specify how aside from a graph I'm not sure about. There is a physical PWRKEY button that can also control the broadcasting but I wouldn't be able to push it when the hardware is actually assembled.

how could I turn it on and off through code? What can I do to make an external button to turn it on and off?

Just wire the external button across the the internal button's connections. You don't need to remove the internal button.
