Controlling Washer/Dryer Using LAN

Hi, new here... is there a way i can program my washer and dryer using Arduino?

My washer and dryer right now is using rfid payment system, and would like to change it and control it by running using a software system, that can send signal using lan network.

If anyone can give me advise where to start will gladly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

Derek

If it is "your" washer dryer why does it use an rfid payment system?

Nobody is going to be able to help you if you don't give make and model of the washer and details of the rfid payment equipment which presumably is an add-on to the washer.

Also remember that washer driers can catch fire and cause electrocution. If you modify the washer and there is a problem you may have difficulties with insurance even if the modifications were not to blame.

Hi thank you for a quick reply. yes maybe will void warranty if problem occurs. this is commercial washer dryer. they send me images just don't know how will i use this or how can i do it.

Image from Reply #2 so we don't have to download it. See this Image Guide

I was going to write a smart-ass reply but I thought maybe I should be kind.

How is anyone here supposed to know what those three sockets are for?

I have the strong feeling that you need to learn a great deal more about Arduinos and programming before you embark on this project.

I was thinking more of the insurance not paying if the building burns down.

Do you already have the washer dryer or is this something you are thinking of buying?

It looks like the rfid kit must be some kind of box mounted on the front of the washer and the connectors in the photograph attach into it is that right?

You really do need to give the make and model of dryer along with the details of the rfid equipment.
Ideally there should be a link to an online manual with circuit diagrams showing what the connectors in the photograph are for.

If the connectors are supplied 'as standard' on the equipment, they'll possibly be provided for some generic plug-in coin-op features...

  • Power / device present
  • Operation /settings (cycle length etc)
  • Token reject / cancel

All these could be applied to various branded credit mechs (coin, note, token, rfid etc)

I'd expect the schematic or manufacturer will be happy to let you know the functions f they fitted them. You may have to sign some indemnity release.

They could well be 'industry standard' or on the web somewhere,

thank you all.

i have not tried to develop device integration yet, this will be my first time, and i don't have any idea on how electronics works.

there are two ways to make this first using coin operated

and card reader, and i would to do using card reader

thank you all.

In Reply #3 I gave you a link that explains how to post pictures. Please use it.

hi, i tried, but i got this copy link address "Controlling Washer/Dryer Using LAN - Project Guidance - Arduino Forum"

got it thanks

Where did those later photos come from?
If they match the washer/dryer, then you may be stuck with their own card mech. - because the tx/rx lines suggest a serial link - which most likely carries proprietary signalling... or if you're lucky, you can drop in the EXACT same type of card reader.

hi thanks, from LG, I also got communication protocol.

how about the coin drop cable? can i use arduino + ethernet to signal drop coin from my software? TIA

Yes
If LG provided the protocol, you can emulate the coin mech in an arduino.
Youll probably need an RS485/422 shield for the full duplex serial.

Thank you.

Sorry Im very new with Arduino, can you please list down all hardware requirements including models? this will help me to accomplish this project. and will post all updates about this project.

Because the connector indicates separate Tx+/- and Rx+/-
That suggests (probably an RS485/422 full duplex) connection.
That means you need to convert the Arduino 'single ended' TTL levels to 'balanced' (+/-) signalling.

Then, you also need to know the serial bit-rate (could be almost anything, but possibly 1200, 4800, 9600, 19200 bps etc)

Finally you need the details of how to construct and parse those serial messages to and from the washer/dryer. This is between you and LG.
Once you get started, show us where you're having problems, and very likely some us can help you.

You'll need to the share LG protocol document - which may not be yours to share - just check the doc, or with LG to be sure!

Hi, How about Arduino Uno + Arduino Ethernet?

My software system will send message thru tcp/ip, then arduino process as coin credit. is this possible?

Thanks

Thanks,

I think I better use the coin interface? this looks easier. but i need LAN to send data from my system.

Will UNO + Etherner will work?

yes.
Arduino + ethernet + serial shield (for the 4-wire interface)

hi,

is this the one?
