Converting 13.8v down to 5v

Hello I have a one of these power supplies that I got for free (given to me by a friend)

And i want to use it to build a led ticker. I have a heavy back ground in C++ (by trade) but I struggle with electronics.

Ideally I want to use SK6812's for the full white element

My question is, do I have to regulate the output voltage 13.8v down to 5v? The power supply is 25amps continuous @ 13.8v DC

Thanks in advance for any help you can give

Hello and thank you for the reply.

Its just a led strip

Input voltage: DC5V
Power:43W/m 0.3W±0.01% per LED

I estimate that I will need around 600 leds for this project (180w @ 5vdc)

Yes, you have to supply 5V to a 5V LED strip.

Pololu has a good selection of efficient step-down converters. You will need several 5V converters, perhaps one per LED strip. Don't forget to connect all the grounds.

I've used these with reliable success.
