conveyor belt counter

i am making a counter for a conveyor belt. the height of my product is 250 microns
please suggest me a sensor or a reliable mechanism to detect every product.

A laser diode (on one side of the belt) that is aimed at a photodiode (on the other). It will, of course, be useless if your product comes past it side by side.

thanks for the reply
bur are you sure that this mechanism can detect a product whose height is just 250 microns

That's a bit unlikely. What size are they in plan view (looking down from above).? How wide is the belt? Are they placed in an accurate position on the belt? Assuming that they're either more or less reflective than the belt itself, a simple optodiode (or maybe an array of them) could likely detect them passing.

More information on your conveyor belt and the product(s) your trying to detect will help.

Maybe you can use a colour detector to detect if something product colour is under compared to conveyor belt colour,

If conveyor is a roller type instead of belt then a beam break sensor shining between rollers will work or a proximity detector set above roller gap will detect a product rolling past.

Hi, Riva has an idea there, what area does the target cover, is it a different colour to the belt material.
Use a color sensor to detect the product and belt differences.

Tom....

product is a gasket used for coupling engine parts
it is in a form of ring with four different colors
and the belt is about 2 feet wide

You say the conveyor belt is about 2' wide but how big are the gaskets? Can you have a situation where they can lay side by side on the conveyor (or on top of each other).
Are the colours of the gasket rings all different to the colour of the conveyor belt?

GASKETS are fed serially
