Recently had success at adding Attiny85 boards by editing preferences txt file and adding the link as directed in another query.
No answer came though as to why the copy and paste does not work.
Perhaps something to look at in new version of the IDE.

What are the exact set of steps I would need to follow to reproduce the issue?
CTRL V and CTRL C work here.

find a link to a new board, highlight, then right click and "copy" the link.
Open Arduino IDE.
Go to file, click on preferences.
Click on the two squares at the end of the "additional boards manager URL's"
In the "enter additional URL's , one for each row" window.....right click and paste...nothing

I see now. Your issue is not having a context menu in that field.
