Cost effective sensor/rangefinder within 8m

Hey all,

As the title suggests, I'm looking for a cost-effective device that can gauge distance no more than 8 ish meters. I do have some ultrasonic sensors on hand but their max range is 4 meters and often times the distance returned is inaccurate (Of course due to how the ultrasound interacted with whatever it hit). I'm looking for something slightly more accurate and double the range but not 50x the price of the original price. I am aware there are LiDAR solutions, but they're wildly expensive as I mentioned before, so I was wondering whether there are any other options when it comes to achieving my specific task (Semi-accurately measuring distance up to 8 meters).

Thanks in advance.

And 'Semi-accurately' is ?

A 10m tape measure.

What does "cost effective" mean to you?

As in it doesn't need to be precise down to the .1 millimeter

Not 50x the price of a device that can do 50% of what it can do essentially. I do need that other 50% though...

You are a lifesaver, these seem to be much cheaper but still can do exactly what I need them to do! Thanks!
