could not able to upload program

i was trying to upload a program( simple led blinking on pin 13) i'm getting error shown below

"avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "\.\COM8": The system cannot find the file specified."

i dono whats the problem
i've done all formalities

  1. installed driver
  2. checked communication port in device manager

previously it was working properly..i dono how to troubleshoot,is it hardware problem or software problem?
please help me

May sound like a silly question, but is it actually connected to COM8? Is COM8 where the OS placed your VCP when you installed the driver?
