Counting using multiple inputs on Ardunio

Hi

I am suppose to count number of passengers in bus and i want to use ardunio's digital pins. For each pin to be high counter counts +1. Is it possible to select multiple inputs with sensors and make counter? suppose a chose an ardunio with 50+ pins and then when 40 of them goes high the Ardunio counts 40. I have never actually worked with Ardunio...:frowning: looking for some advice or suggestions.

Yes this is quite simple but not a fresh beginners problem. Start off by doing some of the example programs in the IDE under the examples menu in the file menu.

What is going to make a pin go HIGH ?

What happens if one passenger makes a pin go HIGH LOW HIGH a few times?
