Course completion work ideas - graduation

Good morning,

I'm finishing my degree in computer science and I need an idea for a topic for my term paper. I found some on the internet but they are very simple.

Observation: I would like to do something that involves microcontrollers and computer networks.

what are you passionate about

I don't have a specific niche. But maybe create something like "Meshtastic" or something related to home automation with a REST API.

A monitoring system for freezer / fridge

  • monitors temperature humidity
  • how long door is open
  • when door is opened - to "catch the nightly snacker"
  • power usage
  • detect defrost failure
  • detect leakage water from device

monitoring system for a washing machine

  • how much water (temperature in, temperature out)
  • power usage
  • notify when ready (often the washer is in another room)
  • etc

Creating that took a couple of person-decades of work, starting with the RadioHead library, but it is a good topic to learn and write about.

My idea about Meshtastic was to create a mesh network just for sending text between LoRa devices, with guaranteed delivery.

My advisor gave me the following idea: use a camera system (360° camera) that can follow a person (or object), and that can only be accessed through a DNS running on a Raspberry Pi on my home network.

But some project with LoRa or radio frequency interests me a lot.

Sorry for my English, I'm from Brazil.

Weather station with a web page showing current and historical weather at your location.

Good project, although guaranteed delivery is not possible with radio. A good starting place in learning about radio mesh networks is RHMesh, which is built into the RadioHead library.

Intriguing…

I have no suggestions for your term paper, but the Forum has a Portuguese Section and we´re in need of reinforcements to help answering questions in our language too :innocent:

Take a look there every now and then. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science would be helpful.
