Hello,
I´m starting a proyect for monitoring levels of a Computer and display alerts that can be sent with sms in case Administrator don´t take noticed.
I will use only one gauge
Other componets: and a modified voltimeter, a lcd , buttons and a gsm modem.
In short i will translate here (i´m spanish) this post of my blog:
http://cacharreototal.blogspot.com/2010/09/nuevo-proyecto-la-caja-ctm.html
I Hope my idea will be good for the rest of arduino users.
In order to not divide comments , i will use this thread as the official discussion table of the proyect.
Many thanks.
[EDITED: HERE IS THE TRANSLATE IN ENGLISH]
I want to make improvements to this machine USB Performance Monitor – Waiting for Friday. Used for reading online computers levels, but using arduino and gms modem and only one gauge meter.
HOW I WANT IT WILL WORKS
The two line lcd , will show the tittle of the measure and units, and down, in the gauge appears the value.
By default , it will be measuring "incoming traffic from network" (more secure, no?) If we want to take a different measure: (CPU usage, Memmory or any other thing) we need to press Green button, that is used to show power on of the box too. Pressing Green Button will make secuencial change of meassure.
If arduino envoronment allow it, i´ll make that any value incremented an X percent in a short time, will make that automaticaly screen and gauge go to that meassure.
Anyway , active meassure, will be interrupted and replaced in case of existence of incoming conections or remote root acccess attemps. In this case SMS is mandatory. We will have constance of date/time of this root access attemp
in our mobile phone.
Red Button will blink everytime that an alert come and don´t stop until it will be pressed.
If not pressed in X time , sms is mandatory
Is not show in the picture, but i will put a key and other led that control / shows the capability of SMS messaging
Computer communication , in this first version , i hope make it with COM Port or USB, Following versions will incorporate ethernet shuied for network monitoring too (with snmp).
