Current measurement

Long story short I need to measure the current passing through a solenoid. Current will range from 0.1-1.1A @ 12vdc. What I need to know is what hardware will I need to measure the current. Would something like an ACS712 chip work? If so what additional hardware would I need?
Thank you.

will work easy just buy one and play with it.

Thanks Shooter. I'll give it a whirl.

I'm not sure how a Hall effect sensor will behave near an solenoid :frowning:

If possible, I'd put an resistor (~1 Ohm) into the ground connection of the solenoid and measure the voltage drop across it, using one of the many available analog inputs, and a RC filter if required.
