CuteDigi SM5100B Cellular Shield

Hey all,

I nabbed a CuteDigi cellular shield and I'm having some difficulties. I've followed the instructions here:

The problem is that when using XCtu, or Putty, or the Arduino serial monitor I am getting garbled output. Normally this indicates an incorrect baud setting but I've cycled through them all and to no avail.

Now I know these shields can be power hogs, and he does say to use a 12v 1A wall wart for running it, but my question is: can I safely have the wall wart plugged into the arduino, and then plug in the USB to monitor output/interact with the shield?

Yes, you can.
