Thanks to everyone who provided the valuable information! I have finally got it to work. I am cleaning up code and I will create a wire diagram which I will post to github... unless someone here thinks it would be better hosted somewhere else.I would like to create a library or maybe add an extension to the existing RTC Library, although it seems that it's specifically I2C based.

I had a look through your Github account, but wasn't able to find anything there regarding the DS12887.
Just wanted to know if you could still provide a wiring diagram and some example code on how to inferface (read/write) to this chip.
