seems that when i was experimenting with 433mhz RF links, i attached the power +5V to the Data pin, so would that break it ?!
Only way to know for sure is to hook it up with a basic sample sketch and test it.
Hopefully you have 2 units so you can compare results.

This is not my area of expertise, but applying common sense, my thoughts are...
Some of modules are rated for 12V, so 5V is unlikely to cause any damage. That being said, since the data pin is essentially a voltage output pin, the chances of damage is probably slim.
