hi all so i use a lot of networking equipment that runs of DC power and im a little on the paranoid side and was wanting to do a virtually instantaneous ATS between 2 interdependent power sauces
now i know i could use relays but there 2 issues there
relays are not quiet fastenugh as i already experimented with them and the equipment resets during change over
but also i wanting to integrate power measurements and also use this as a PDU (each equipment has its own power connection) and being able to monitor power on each connection
the voltage i am working with is 36v
the current from selected sauce can peak to 80a (due to how much dc powered equipment i have)
so basicaly i asking for help on best way to do this
That will require virtually identical voltages from each source. Can you ensure that will happen?
yes both sauces will be going throu buck boost converter tuned to 36v
Consider the results when the fuse in one supply blows open and the second supply takes over. Will the second supply fuse carry the overload or will it also open up?
well i did say peak at 80A it will be nomaly 30A
the 80A is for a fue resions
a over calculation to acount for surges and posabil futer exspantion
also i dont want to use diods as i onaly want to use one supply at a time
as the main suce will be a solar battery system and the back up will be grid power and i onaly want to use grid if i apsalutly have to
this i have taken in to acount and ties in to the ability of useing this as PDU too each out let will have its own fuse and each output will have its current and voltage monitered and if something out of spec it will isolate that output
You seem to have all the engineering and design done. Why are you asking for help?
i am asking for help on best way to switch from one supply to another as quick as possable
Connect in parallel, since both are identical and use diodes in series with each positive to stop power feed back when one psu stops supplying power.
but as stated in a previus reply one sauce will be from a battery ank charged from solar and other sauce will be grid supply
and i onaly want to use grid supply if apsalutly nessasery and if i am right useing the diod method it will draw power from both sauces at same time wich i want to avoid
ONlY in the so rare instance that both voltages are identical to several decimal points. Besides, the only way you can be sure both supplies are operational is to use them.
@Paul_KD7HB I use Diodes for isolation. Pictured below is the diode I use. I set the power supplies at about 12.5V and then adjust for minimal voltage difference between them. You may have to do this several times to get it exact. My power supplies are on different mains circuits and each supply can support the full load.
