DC3231 resets with new battery

I have a DC3231 to read time on my Nano.

I've the following code and cabling: DS3231 - Wokwi ESP32, STM32, Arduino Simulator
When the Nano goes into deep sleep, the DS3231 seems to lost timing. The battery is brand new, and I've tested with various ones.
To be completely certain that there won't be any problem with the battery, I've removed the rechargeable capacity (by removing the diode on the board).

What could be the problem with my DS3231 ?

Is the battery actually connected to the chip or do you have a bad connection?
