DEAD ARDUINO?

hi,
so i was trying to drive a electric motor with a transistor and UNO for a remote control car i hacked,
and i started with 5V and it wasn't enough to drive it so i tried 9V and it wasn't enough so i did 12V and it moved fast so i disconnected it. when i tried to upload the sketch i got a error:

avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00

is my arduino dead?
someone please help

It is not clear how you connected the 9 and 12V, please post schematics how you did.

Note that this same error pops up if you select the wrong board in the IDE.
