Dead or alive?

My first handful of arduinio boards... still can't spell it right (why'd they have to have an "UNO"). Well, my first handful went off with a thud. Nanos. One I thought I burned soldering the headers, second I shorted. Third is unknown.

All actually will connect to USB and accept new code. What is the fast/easy way to test the health of the chip, vr, serial, output, dac, adc, and clock? Well, forget clock. Should I just set all pins to cycle and hookup to scope?

Another guy had posted something about redundancy and someone brought up triple-modular redundancy. I'm years away at this point, but I'd handle error correction that way.
