Here are the messages I get. Also green light and flashing yellow

Arduino: 1.6.5 (Mac OS X), Board: “Arduino/Genuino Uno”

Sketch uses 450 bytes (1%) of program storage space. Maximum is 32,256 bytes.
Global variables use 9 bytes (0%) of dynamic memory, leaving 2,039 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 2,048 bytes.
avrdude: ser_open(): can’t open device “COM1”: No such file or directory
ioctl(“TIOCMGET”): Inappropriate ioctl for device
Problem uploading to board. See for suggestions.

Since the Mac doesn't have a COM1 I suspect you didn't select a serial port under Tools->Port.

There is no opportunity to choose a port or not. The instruction book tells me to download and copy the application to a folder after expanding it. Then connect the Arduino with a USB cable. "The Uno will show up as 'Not configured' but it will be working"
