I have an object floating inside a pool of water (see image), what type of device can i use to detect its range from the bottom. I need to detect how far away from the sensor an object sits in water at a range up to 2 meters. What I have seen of IR will not allow for this distance. The ultrasonic sensor from sparkfun will only work from above the pool of water, not below, i think. keywords or help appreciated. willing to rtfm
what u wanna make some kind of sonar? a bit like a fish finder does?
he's building a device to seek out mines in his aquarium!... ;D
hmmmm, what if you did it like aquapod style, like using a plastic container upside down so an air bubble gets trapped, and equalize the weight, with some barbels or something, just careful not to get it wet. thats my idea, since the sparkfun sensor works over the water.
good luck with your sweet soundin project, and please keep us updated....

You still need the microphones and transponders, maybe you could cobble up some smaller variants.
