Device "not" connected

Using Arduino IDE 1.x

So, I just bought an Arduino/Genuino UNO R3, however when I try to upload code from my desktop win10 it fails. Device manager informs me the device is not connected. I have used this same board and cable successfully in my laptop, and use this USB port for other devices all the time, I have also tried othe USB ports without success. What should I do?

P.S.: The board does light up when connected.

Did you GOOGLE "code 45 windows" ?

Almost all have it down to a driver or registry issue.

Are you using USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 ports as that can also make a difference between computers along with the OS type. Win 10 can cause some minor driver issues.
