DFPlayer won't turn on when used as standalone

First of all, i'm not sure if i should be posting this in this forum because it doesn't have anything to do with arduino directly. But i really need help and this is the best place i could think of. Couple days ago, I used the dfplayer with an arduino uno and it worked perfectly. In the dfplayer datasheet( DFPlayer_Mini_SKU_DFR0299-DFRobot ), it is mentioned that dfplayer can be used as a standalone device. I am trying to use the dfplayer in the IO mode. Amd since i don't have arduino to power the board now, i connected 3 1.5V AA batteries in series to get 4.5V. But after all that, the dfplayer still doesn't even start up. I mean, when i connect the ground to the negative end of the battery which completes the circuit, the dfplayer just stays as it is. Doesn't even power up.
I am sharing the pictures of what i wanted to do with where i got the idea from. For any more clarifications, do not hesitate to ask. Any help will ne appreciated. TIA

Whether you should post in this forum or not, you should certainly not have posted this in the Introductory Tutorials section, so I have moved it to somewhere more appropriate

Thanks i was really confused about where i should post it.

How do you know it doesn't turn on?

Looking at your hand drawn sketch, I'd say that you need a ground (0v) going to your earphones.

I know it doesn't turn on because there is this small red led that lights up when it's on. Regarding the earphone, last time when i tried it with arduino, the sound was strangely clear without the pin going to ground. The problem might be between trs and trrs interface, but i'm really worried about that for now. That's beside the point. Only if it made any sound, even a buzz, i would figure out the rest.

I recently completed a project with the DF Player Pro battery powered in stand alone mode and it worked perfectly. Are you sure it's capable of driving your speaker?

Yes i tried it with an 8ohm .5watt speaker, it worked

So, problem solved?

Your earphone plug has 2 sections or 3 (tip and sleeve, or tip, ring and sleeve)?
In any event, the sleeve must go to GND.

Actually my earphone has 4 section... Trrs.. and the socket i have is 5 pin. The place i bought the socket from did not provide me with any datasheet or pin diagrams of any sort. I couldn't even find a perfect datasheet that matches my socket online either. So what i did was i just messed around with the pins a little bit. At one point i did get music coming out of the earphones but it had a significant noise. Then i looked up noise reducing methods but none worked. But accidentally i figured out when the pin i thought was ground got disconnected, the noise was gone. I can show you an image of the socket if you want

Take a picture, make a dwg., show what you did to get it going.

Because it includes a microphone which you do not need.

The 5 pin socket must presumably include a "back" contact, which closes to another when no plug is inserted. You need to connect the stereo outputs to the tip and first (nearest the tip) ring, connecting both the second ring and sleeve to ground to allow for the two alternate wirings used by headsets.

We really do need pictures/ Web links for the socket if you are in any way unsure of the connections.

Alright... Extremely sorry there for zoning out... I think we are getting a little sidetracked here. To remove the complications i have now connected a speaker in in spk_1 and spk_2 pins. But the problem remains. The dfplayer doesn't turn on when the button for play or pause is pressed. I think the problem might be with the power supple, because i am actually using 3 AA 1.5Volts battery in series to get around 4.5Volts that is required for the dfplayer to run. I don't have a multimeter so i am not actually being able to measure the voltage across the batteries. But i think owing to poor soldering or some faulty connection, there is still electric flow, but not enough amps to get the dfplayer started. Because i have double checked everything and I can't really think of anything else at this point.

I am now completely confused. Back in post #7, you said that it works with an 8 ohm, 0.5W speaker. I asked if the problem was solved, but you didn't reply.

So what is the problem if it works with a speaker?

I am terribly sorry. I am just bad at explaining things. Forget about everything ever happened. I diagnosed the dfplayer, and it came up with two problems. The first one being a connection problem and the second one being sd card not found(which i also think is due to the connection issue.
What i meant earlier is i tried the dfplayer with an arduino and a speaker and it worked fine. Then i tried to use it as standalone but that's when i faced issues. The dfplayer wasn't turning on. Leave alone working with a speaker. I hope this helps with your confusion. And if it doesn't, please bother asking. Thanks a lot!

Hello and apologies to everyone concerned. I have looked into the issue and apparently it's having trouble powering up due to some damage to the vcc pin. The soldering on the sd card reader is also damaged. That was what was causing the problems. If anyone could tell me what the problem actually is and if there is any way to fix it, it would be really appreciated. Thanks
