dfrobot sound sensor not working properly

hello! i'm relatively new to arduino and have a problem with the dfrobot sound sensor www.dfrobot.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=35_50&product_id=83

i want to make a lamp that has the brightness dependent on noise. the problem i have is that the sonsor isn't very sensible. i must wistle in it to get a value of 300 ( read from serial), and does not respond to other sounds very good. if i clap my hands it reads only 60 (max). i listen to music and talk at only 30 cm of it and the analogRead value is mainly 0. unfortunately there is no datasheet on the site so i don't know if it's normal behaviour.

The sensor is plug and play. I connect pin 1 on the sensor as output, pin 2 GND and pin 3 VCC. I tought that it's good enough, because on the site sais that it detects sound intensity. Anyhow, I always tought it was a gain problem :frowning: . Thank's Richard, I'll try that.

Oh well then, that's everything you need to know! ;D

It's hardly worth devoting a web page to is it?

They recently working on a wiki page which has a full list of their products.
