DFRobot USB Host Shield with DFRobotShop Rover + Android Phone

I have a special question on how to get started with DFRobot USB Host shield.

First my level: I am a newbee in creating electronics so i want to do this as education project

What i want to do later: I bought this USB Shield: http://www.exp-tech.de/product_info.php?info=p84_dfrobot-usb-host-shield.html and want to connect it to the DFRobotShop Rover. The Rover uses Pins 5,6,7,8 for controlling the motors.

I want to send USB commands which poweres the motor and the left pins on the board.

Can someone tell me if i would get in trouble trying this? How are the pins controlled ?

With best regards, Björn Karpenstein

I can't see any reason for you to get into trouble with that configuration. The USB shield uses the ICSP pins and pins 9 and 10. There shouldn't be a clash with the Rover. There is a library for the USB shield, and you will need to use that to control it.

What do you want to send commands from?

Hello! Thank you very much for your reply!

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 (Android) and already developed some database applications using some PHP services.

I saw that at the end of the month there will be an Android 4.0 ICE_CREAM_SANDWICH Update, which allows to use ANDROID ADK (accesory development kit). http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/usb/adk.html

As i read the ADK API is a necessary prerequirement for sending usb commands?
