Did I just fry my Arduino Uno?

Hey There,

I have an IR receiver on pin 5.5v, GND, and pin 7. In my effort to make the circuit as small as possible I accidentally made the three pins of the IR receiver touch another wire all together, I saw a sparkle... Led 13 still blinks fine when I press the hardware reset button. I can't see if the chip actually works because I might've killed the IR receiver which is the only thing it is programmed to respond to. When I try to upload something I am always getting:
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding

I tried:

  • Uploading an empty sketch
  • Manually reset the Arduino right when it starts uploading.
  • Rebooting my laptop.

I hope someone can tell me if this thing is fixable, or if I should buy a new one. Thanks!

5.5v pin?

LOL, 5v of course.

Check for a short circuit the arduino's turns off on a short  hope this helps

And if All that doesent work try replacing the ATMEL chip, After all its only 2 bucks and worth trying...

I never recommend one try to fry their Arduino. I've found simply bringing one to a quick boil and letting it just simmer for 10-20 mins gives much better results.
