Difference between Ultrasonic and Infrared Sensor

Hi everyone
i want to ask you about something

2 kind of sensor for measure distance is ultrasonic and infrared(IR). the goal of my project is detection obstacle about 1 meter long. so, which one device that suitable for my project? and please for any links that i can use it for installation and detail features and specification

Keep in mind these are for specific sensors, which may differ from the ones you have.
