Digi-Key's Online Schematic Editor

The software is actually very impressive

Yes it is; I haven't looked at it in a few months, but last time I did, one thing that struck me was the fact that they didn't have a means to suggest parts from their catalog, then do an online order from the bill-of-materials (BOM). I don't know if they've changed this, but it seems like it would be an obvious feature (and one to push sales to them). Then again, it may be one of those "for the hobbyist" tools, whereas their big orders come from places using something a little more sophisticated...

One other thing that I suspect (no proof of any kind): If you look around, you'll find an open-source online schematic editor on google code (or freshmeat/sourcforge - somewhere I ran across it) that used SVG, etc - and progress on it ended not too long ago; it even has a similar name to the Digikey offering. My (conspiracy) theory is Digikey caught wind of it, and took it and the author "in-house" (and probably pays him well)...
