Digital zoom camera

Hello everyone,

I've completed a few arduino projects but am very much a noob. My next project requires a digitally-zoomable camera that I can control with a range-finding module. Can anyone kindly suggest an appropriate camera module with which to start?

Arduino is not good at video processing.
Why not a proper camera with a manual zoom lens?
